CalLMIP 1st Phase Planning Workshop
In March and April 2025 the CalLMIP Steering Committee held a series of three 1st phase planning and development workshops across two time zones to get feedback from the community on the goals and protocol for the 1st Phase, as well as discussing potential future phases of CalLMIP.
Workshop Goals
The goals of the 1st Workshop were to:
- Discuss the goals of the 1st stage of CalLMIP
- Discuss the protocol, input files, data types/characteristics, sites and variables to be optimized in the first stage of the calibrated land model intercomparison.
- Discuss the post-optimization analyses that could/should be performed.
- Discuss future stages of the MIP and our vision for ultimate goals (e.g., to support the wide use of data-constrained model ensemble simulations for CMIP and TRENDY/GCB).
Recordings of the presentation part of each of three sessions of the workshop series can be found here: https://aimesproject.org/cal-lmip/.
By the end of the workshop we had a draft protocol in place and received a lot of feedback from the community about decisions we had to make for the 1st Phase. We also had a robust discussion about potential future phases of CalLMIP and co-authorship policy. Our plan is to outline this vision in a perspective article to be submitted in March/April 2026.
